basic knife and pistol badges

Just wondering what I have to do to get these badges, and whats a "SMoC"?

The Basic Knife requirement is simply 7 knife kills in a round, Basic Pistol is 5 pistol kills in a round. SMoC stands for Sergeant Major of the Corps. Back in the day, the ranks for BF2 only went as far as Sergeant Major, so as a little added bonus, each player who reached the rank of Sergeant Major could spend a week in the rankings as Sergeant Major of the Corps. It's all kind of pointless now since the ranks go way beyond SMoC.

your going to want to get your expert knife and pistol eventually as that has everything to do to get your future badges..

I managed to get the pistol the other day but the knife is a bit trickier though
