Hope this is the correct location for this post.
I had severe frame drag with AIX... on a Win7 OS laptop (Alienware, pretty hot machine)...
... which was really bumming me out...
... we have 2identical machines and the other was working perfectly...
... I simply de-installed, re-installed AIX (with reboots) and voila!, all is well...
I was able to bump graphics to "High" and ran AIX w/out issue tonight.
Maybe Win7 is touchy...

Sorry to tell you this but Alienware aint that hot anymore.
When you buy any item from them 27.3% of the cost of that item is for the brand name. :D:mad:
So you can right off almost a third of the cost just for a name, next work out that cost and you will see not that great.
Home built PC's for the same cost of alienware are twice as powerful if not more.
The biggest problem with pre-built machines they do not allow for many upgrades within that machine/case.
A very good company is "CUBE 24/7"
There most powerful PC is this.
* Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
* Intel Core i7 950 Processor
* 12288MB Corsair DDR III Memory
* 3000GB SATA II Seagate Ultra Fast Hard Disk Space
* NEC 7200 Multi Format DVD/CD ReWriter
* TWO ATI Radeon 5870 Crossfire! - TWO of the Fastest Cards On The Planet! :eek::eek:
* ASUS Deluxe Motherboard
* Multi Format Memory Card Reader
* LG BLU RAY Re-Writer Drive
* 10/100/1000 Ethernet LAN
* 8 x USB2 Ports
* Firewire
* 28” Widescreen Full HD TFT HDMI
* Microsoft Wireless Multimedia Keyboard
* Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse
* Logitech X530 5.1 Speaker System
* Antec Deluxe Case
* 12 Month Classic Warranty
* Microsoft Office 60 Day Trial
* Microsoft Windows Live Essentials
Leonis ST24
£2599.00 :eek:
including VAT
For the price a very impressive machine.
Just 1 of the graphics cards in this beast is powerful enough to play the latest games at full spec, so imagine 2 of them working in tandem :eek::eek:

I just built my new rig and I am loving the Win7 Ult x64 when it doesn't cause me grief with certain drivers/hardware. But a quite pleased. I just tested out BF2 and AIX within the past 15 mins. I have to learn to play again because I am getting too many fps. lol.. Don't laugh... too hard... coming from a Socket 478 to an 1156 i7-860 ::halo face::

I run windows 7 and i don't have to use a compatibility mode.
So you can play vanilla and custom but for AIX you have to use compatibility mode XP SP3, or do you have to use that regardless of the mod ?
Have you tried testing the PB Services PnkBstrA & PnkBstrB ?
If not click here (http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe) an download PBSVC, Once downloaded click test services, When it's complete it should pop up a message box saying if the test was successful, If it was then i'm not sure what to tell ya but if it was'nt successful then install the punkbuster services.
Let us know if your cured or not.

I built our prior machines...
We wanted laptops.
For the money, I couldn't beat the Alien boxes...
... they aren't mobile, just easily portable... we used to LAN party some but things there aren't as easy going as they need to be for us to be comfortable and we have decided to stay home.
Then we found Nitro... :)
(my son found you guys, actually!)
No need to leave the house ;)
I am not using compability mode...
the issues I had seemed to be with Java and C++ and some other pre-installed stuff...
... I have essentially no idea what fixed my problems, and by tomorrow they may be back?
(gremlins?)
My son's machine though... he may not have been letting the installs install themselves... I can't remember if we put it on "full auto" or "confirm before install"...
... but I think autoupdates of a-market software seemed to be my trouble.
Well, tonight it ran great again... but after declaring victory (see first post in this thread) and then regretting it...
I'm just going to say "today, it worked OK".

... just a followup... after 2 weeks (or has it been 3?) since re-installing Windows 7 on the fidgety box...
... both boxes still working well and equally.
The new game router arrived, and our DSL is "pegged out" for what we can get here at 3.0Mbps down, 300kbps up...
... all said, can't really tell any difference with the DSL and router upgrades...
... but the difference overall compared to prior to owning these newer machines is we can play BF2 now (whereas before the drag was simply un-playable for us it was so bad).
Guess it was time to wrap up the story with a bow.
I love happy endings.
(I need a tissue, ... NOT... OK, time to go kill bots!!!!)
