Will running custom maps, etc. cause issues?
I have read some that BF2 is very sensitive to mods to prevent hacking.
I am totally new to customs... but everyone on Ventrilo seems to be playing customs so we are very interested.
Any help appreciated... again, total newbie here with customizing BF2...

I've never had a problem having custom maps and mods on my bf2. Still able to play all the normal ranked servers just fine.

Sounds like something to try then!
Any link to a thread to "get us started" (for total newbies) or is it pretty easy?
Just download/install custom maps and hit the custom servers?
(thanks!)

(oh yeah... how do we get "signed up" to the team?... so we can have stats, etc.?)

the maps are safe, but do need to be placed in the correct file...local disk c-program files-ea games-bf2-mods-levels. see you at the front.

If you go to the home page and click on the custom map server (center of the page) there is a list of the maps in the current rotation.

Right... another question...
I am running on win 7 Pro x64 and the path to "levels" folder is as follows with me..
c:\program files (x86)\ea games\battlefield 2\mods\..\levels
The .. has then to be replaced with (what appears to be) exansion packs.
For instance ..\mods\bf2\levels or ..\mods\Hardjustice\levels
Please put up a little more of a manual on the site somewhere as I really have a bit of trouble understanding this. Very new to the manually installing mods....

teeeman and i just went thru this..he runs 7 and he put the maps into the bf2 levels ,you dont need to go farther than that..apparently you can break it down farther with 7..i run xp so that is what he did and it worked fine..i hope this helps answer your question.

So to be completely sure:
You say I should put the files in
c:\program files (x86)\ea games\battlefield 2\mods\bf2\levels
with no subfolders for the client and the server files?
Thanks for helping!

perfect
will look forward to seeing you in custom. it is a lot of fun especially when you get a lot of the regulars in and most are on vent.

Thanks!
I already found out myself by trial and error!
I already have a team [OUCH] as you may have noticed. But we don't come here often as one of us got a perma ban. Not completely fair, but we chose not to appeal.
See you online when I play alone!

Most perm bans will be lifted if you just ask and promise to play nice. I don't know the particulars of your case, and all decisions of that type are ultimatly up to Kilemal, but it wouldn't hurt to put up a post.

Here is the exact path I used successfully for Win 7, copy pasted:
C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Levels
I will add that in Win7 it uncompresses the zip file just by clicking on it... the icons for the zip and the unzipped almost are identical... the zipped has a little zipper shown...
... the trick was to get the unzipped folder that has inside of it typically 3 more folders (typically Info, unzipped... and 2 zipped folders called client and server)...
... what you want to do is copy/paste the unzipped folder with the "Info/Client/Server" subfolders to the address above.
So the mechanics of the move are (what I did) right-click the unzipped folder (where all you see is the folder, not its subfolders)... copy/paste it to the address line.
I probably over-explained this and made it confusing... hope though it helps...

i downloaded almost all the stuff i found for bf2, manymany custommaps, eod, aix etc.. this weekend i wanna try project reality and i didnt have any problems with compatibility(hope this word exists) and im running VISTA!!!! so ..easygoin!
doppelmax has w7 and we collected the custommaps the same way-download some custommap, open winrar archive, lookin for *normal folder* named forexmpl Dragon_Valley which contains 3 files(two of them are zipped and are called client and server, dont need to extract them separately) now just
drag the *normal folder* to the ../levels path or
extract the *normal folder* to the ../levels path
hope that it helps

each individual map has to be downloaded. this way if a player already has some they can download what is needed.
