Punk Buster Errors

I was informed today that most players in the games are getting kicked almost every round or so because of Punk Buster communication errors. I remember Cappy saying something about this in a post a week or two ago but I kinda disregarded it because most PB communication errors are a client side (player) issue and cannot be corrected on the server. I'm still not sure if the problem is a server or client issue, but all the PB files on the server are up to date, so I've turned PB off in both games until someone can tell me what the problem is.

According to the logs this has been a serious issue the past week or so with most or all of the players in the game getting kicked by PB every couple rounds. You guys really need to bring stuff like this to my attention sooner. My apologies if you tried but I just wasn't listening . . . . that happens sometimes !

Steve if i can have access to the server and all the server files i could probably figure out if the problem is the Client or Server side for you.:)

Most of the time a manual update of PunkBuster will fix it if it's on the clients side. I haven't had a PunkBuster kick in a month or so though, so it's hard to tell what's going on. Here's a link to down load it and manually update as needed, if you don't already have it.

I got tired of getting booted, so I manually deleted everything in my pb folder, DL'd the latest version....same results. I'm not sure updating will correct anything, but it cant hurt.

Okay - first let me say that I am only giving this as what I suspect - I really dont know squat about Punkbuster on the whole.

That said, I'm more than partially inclined to believe the pb kicks come from 'lag' related issues. Handshaking errors, communication failures, etc etc tend to indicate server side problems and are "time" based issues. I dont know if there are server side settings related to communication timeouts and the like but that would be a good place to look. Mostly though, I suspect that its just simply a matter of pb messages between server/client not being passed in a timely manner.

Please take a couple minutes to actually read the info on that page as opposed to just randomly downloading as it will save you time in the end.

I noticed the PB problem also but i thought i read somewhere that you were already aware of it. I have'nt played for a little while because of the PB kicks and i also got some weird messages multiple times about turning off my modded BF2.. even though my BF2 is totally standard. ;)

I will try what Rugburn proposed and download the client files to my folders and see if anything changes. I just wanna add that i tried TNT server also and had the same problem with PB so im almost sure it has to be something with my client side. The only difference was the elapsed time before i got kicked. On TNT it would be after about 5 minutes where it would be instant after the load completed to next map on your server.

Btw this still happend after i manually updated using the pbsetup thingy.

I'm sill getting kicked almost every round. I tried uninstaliing and reinstalling Punkbuster but that made it worse, I couldn't even join the server (some kind of error) so I had to do a system restore to before I reinstalled Punkbuster.

Yea, the punkbuster error finally happened to me yesterday. I've also been getting connection problems pretty much every map and it's really effecting my game play. I wonder if anyone realizes when I crash the helo that It wasn't me it was the connection! lol I need to check my Internet, and possibly trade in my modem for a new one (getting about that time). Anyhow, has anyone else had connection problems...It's probably on my end, but I haven't noticed anything other then when I'm in the game.

*update- Just wanted to say, since I made this post, I went and did the manual update with the punkbuster updater, and it showed that I wasn't up to current version needed. My game was just installed within the week, and when I got kicked for the Pb error it was my first time, so I will let yall know if I still get kicked for the pb error. Right now, my connection problem is my biggest problem.

One thing I did notice is when I get kicked and come back on right away, I don't loose my stats.
