why i'am asking is because i want to get the best. but which one is at the better price. i only have a $117 right to use on a new cpu. an i don't know if i want to spend all my money in one spot. i would like to get a new hdd. i have a 103gb hd that is full. most of the stuff is not mine. plus i need to save money to buy this computer. ya my parents own it. so that is why i'am asking which is better.
i'am only going to be running games like mw2- don't have yet. empire total war-don't have yet. bf2-have. bfbc2-don't have yet.
so i would like to get on that would be fine just running thoes games.

thanks for the help

If your limited between the 2 then the E7500 is the one to go with, The second link you posted.

But either CPU would run all those games.

Are you limited to Microcenter, or could you purchase online to?

Of those 2, the Core 2 Duo is the clear winner, E7500 unless you are open to overclocking, could bump up that lesser processor. Although the Core 2 Duo is a newer/faster architecture than the Pentium Dual core.

Also hard drives are pretty cheap now, you should be able to get a 500gb+ for around $50

Ya I am limited to places where I can go an pick up the CPU.

Plus microcenter is cheaper than bestbuy. But if you can find it cheaper some where else then I may look into. Plus sometimes I buy computer things I eBay

So I'm guessing your running a socket 775 motherboard then?

Also how much ram have you got on your board?

Also cheapest for it's price HD I found was a 500gb for $49.32 and that's on a UK site!

yes i'am running on a 775. i only have 1gb of ram. here is a link of my pc http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/compaq-presario-sr5210nx-c/4507-3118_7-32716537.html?tag=mncol;rnav. it should help if i don't know something.

Thank for all the help so far.

That's a sad little machine. Are you set on upgrading it, or will you be able to come up with enough money for something else? Any upgrades you make to it will be old tech.

Going from a 1.6ghz to a 2.6-2.9ghz processor is going to make a large difference. A bump in ram up to 2 gig would be nice. Are you still running on the integrated as well? That definitely should be looked at as well.

BF:BC requires a much stronger rig to run decent, unless your running at lowest settings on a very low resolution, 1024 x 768 or thereabouts, it will need substantially more power than your pc has atm.

i had to upgrade from my integrated graphic card. now i have geforce 8400 gs, plus i got a new 400 watt psu. i'am a person that does not need to play on max graphics. i'am fine on just playing on low to med.

Unfortunatley you will overall have a problem with this older PC motherboard.

It's a shame you have not got around $300 to play with as you could get a slightly better Motherboard with chip and 2gb of ram for around $250 and then you would have $50 for a new HD around the 500gb size.

The only real solition to your problem is SAVE a little longer and get slightly better kit that will be useless within a year of buying it lol!!!

Try this for an idea.

Yes I know this is all english stuff but i'm sure you can get mostly the same stuff for the same sort of price in the USA.

Motherboard

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Motherboards/AMD+Socket+AM2%2B/ECS+Geforce+6100PM-M2+V2.0+%28Socket+AM2%2B%29+DDR2+PCI-Express+Motherboard+?productId=40050

Cost £31.71 or $48.04

Processor

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/CPUs+%2F+Processors/AMD/Athlon+II+X2+AM3/AMD+Athlon+X2+Dual-Core+5600%2B+2.90GHz+%28Socket+AM2%29+-+OEM+?productId=33834

Cost £38.76 or $58.71

The ram you have will work in this new configuration.
So will the graphics card.
then all you need is another HD for around $50 you can get a 500gb drive.

Added bonus you will have a 64bit duel core basicly you will have 2 x 2.9 processors not bad!!!!!!!!!

Of course I am slightly biast to AMD as I do some testing for them LOL!!!!!

You gotta go with the 5300 chip. The bus speed on your board is 800mhz. The speed on the 7500 is 1066. The will create a bottleneck and your pc won't boot. The other CPU has a 800 mhz bus so it will work. While you could slow the bus speed on the CPU the factory settings will not allow it to boot. The speed on the board has to match or be faster than the speed of the chip.

ANSWERING YOUR ORIGINAL QUESTION :-)
(After the first few paragraphs, I have listed some very useful tools that will help anyone and everyone when comparing computer equipment)

Here is the raw data when comparing the 2 processors you listed at the start of this thread:
Pentium Dual-Core E5300 @ 2.60GHz
Score of 1728
Ranked 251
# of Samples: 839

Intel Core2 Duo E7500 @ 2.93GHz **Winner**
Score of 2006 (higher is better)
Ranked 207 among all processors
# of Samples: 1010

The Core2 Duo wins the battle, but not by much. The score difference between these two would hardly be noticeable. I upgraded a while back from a Pentium 4 @ 2.8 Ghz (533Mhz Bus) to a Pentium 4 @ 3.4 Ghz (800 Mhz bus). I could barely tell a difference except there was less lag when gaming.
You did a great job finding low prices for those processors. You beat pricewatch.com and some other useful places I visited.

Afrika, could you provide a full listing of your system specs including:
Motherboard model #
Video Card:
RAM type and amount:
Hard Drive (type, speed, size)
Processor (Brand, Speed, SOCKET type!, example: Socket 478, LGA 1366 etc.)
Power Supply (Brand name, wattage, model #)
OS:

An Example of a full set of specs that would be helpful would be a listing that looks like this:

Motherboard: ASUS M4A79XTD EVO AM3 AMD 790X ATX
Processor:AMD Phenom II X4 965 @ 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core
Video Card: EVGA (NVIDIA) GeForce GTX 465 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16
RAM: G.SKILL 6GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
Hard Drives: OCZ 60 GB Vertex 2 Series SATA II (Solid State Drive)
---------------Western Dig. 320 GB 16 MB Cache, 7200 RPM SATA II
Power Supply: Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

An EASY Route to save you from having to rip open your computer and look at model numbers etc is to do this. (Assuming you have Windows XP)
-Go to Start menu
-Run
-type in "dxdiag" or "dxdiag.exe"
-hit Enter

This is the Direct X utility which pretty much tells you everything there is to know about your computer.

I would be happy to research all avenues possible if I can obtain a full list of specs that you currently have, and the budget you'd like to spend. You don't have to be as detailed as me. I just copied and pasted most of the stuff I have since I ordered my computer parts from the internet (Newegg).

I notice you mentioned you were limited to buying things you could pick up in a store - if so, that will limit your choices... and you may get ripped off when going to places like Best Buy for certain items (though they are great with some things).

If ever you'd like to compare processors (or Video cards or Hard drives), visit: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/
This site provides a graphical listing of ALL known pieces of hardware relating to Processors, Hard Drives (and SSDs), and Video Cards.
See below for details

Information for others who may wish to upgrade but want a nice & easy to read chart:

On any of the listed web addresses below, it's all the same site really, just different URLs for the different listings. Make sure to visit the "High End" charts for the fastest and baddest of equipment available to consumers.

For Processor Comparison visit:
http://www.cpubenchmark.net

For Video Card Comparison visit:
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/

For Hard Drive and Solid State Drive Comparison visit The SSDs are all at the top, way above any mechanical or typical Hard drive:
http://www.harddrivebenchmark.net/

Hover your mouse over any of the components you see in the graph and it will show 3 things:
1. Rank
2. # of Samples (VERY important)
3. # of Cores for Processor listings, The size of the Hard drive for HDs and SSDs

NOTE: Results of Overclocked video cards, and processors are included in each sample but the overall average score is what you see.

How are they rated you might next ask?
Software called Performance Test 7.0 is used for anyone who would like to benchmark their computer - it is provided on the website under the Software section.

Users install this software and it tests EVERY aspect of your computer, CPU, Video Card, RAM, Hard Drive speed, even CD-ROM speed!
It's really neat to see where your bottlenecks are and you can compare your results against others with similar equipment.

This post is long enough and I want to make sure I don't stray too much further from the original topic. Respond if you'd like more details on any of this. I'll answer any questions you may have or point you in the right direction if the advice given from myself and other helpful members of the forum isn't enough.
I was in your shoes before where I would have $100 for a month, then 3 months later another $100 to spare for new PC parts. What I did? I saved the money till I had $1000 and bought everything that was listed above. It's better to save at least $500 for a new PC. I could help you build a screamer of a machine for only that much money (including shipping/tax).

I will be playing mw2, empire total war. I think I may go with pent 4 dual core. With the cheaper CPU. With the extra money I can get a bigger HD, or more ram.

Your big problem is MW2 needs 12-16Gb of HD to install

And on top of that if you are like me and become a map collector for BF2 then you will need a good 50gb  of HD for all the maps for all the versions the run here at TEAM.

As for the laptop it's not a good choice as you are Very limited in how you can upgrade it.

For me a laptop is only of any use if you are moving around alot.

Otherwise your better off getting a desktop as you are more likely to be able to upgrade it.

Also the laptop you tried to show is in fact not a Compaq but a HP model.
You would probably not be able to play CoD MW2 on it.
With a laptop you are limited to what you can put inside, as I said before it is really made for being mobile not for power.
