Hello Everyone,
I unfortunately was banned for accidentally backing over a half dozen squad mates in an M1A2 evading 3 oncoming enemy armor. I try not to make it a habit of Tking my squad mates but, inevitably it did. This was yesterday evening. Please accept my sincerest apologies, Kilo

I see more players in this game backing over teammates in tanks and armor when there's absolutely no need for it. You don't even need to turn around and look before you back up, you have a built in back-up camera right up in the top right corner of your screen ! It's called the mini-map, and all you have to do is look at it before you back up and it will show you all the teammates and team vehicles that are anywhere near you !

In all the years I've been playing this game I've never understood this one.

Kilemal, i tip my hat off to you, to be able to remain completely calm in a situation with 3 tanks charging you, to look up at the mini map, check to make sure no ones around you, then back up. I do that some times, but I'm usually in the "back up to stay alive" mode, and don't have the time to check. That and the way the game is, my tank is painted after, and therefore over, everyone else's dot, and it sometimes covers the dot, so i don't even see them on the minimap sometimes. The game isn't pefect, we aren't perfect, mistakes happen, it's why theres a word in the english dictionary called "forgive." Kilo seems sincerely apologetic and it seems to be completely accidental, so although I'm not an admin nor have any weight in the matter, it seems there is no true harm done to anyone except his overall team score.

It's a game man - It's not like you're really going to die if you don't get out of there NOW. So - I look at the mini-map and get killed in the game because I didn't get out of there quick enough. You back up and squash a couple teammates so you can stay alive. I like my plan better.

. . . . it seems there is no true harm done to anyone except his overall team score.

And the poor engineer standing behind him trying to repair his sorry ass. It's not a big deal - I'm just saying I don't understand it. I have more trouble with people and bots running in front of my tank then I do backing over them. But if I had a nickel for everytime I tried to repair a teammate in a tank, just to get run over by them pulling a hasty retreat . . . .

Anyhoo Kilo - I don't see your name in any of the banlists so I suspect you were just kicked for negative score, but if you still can't get in the game let me know which one it happened in and I'll take a closer look. The banlists are pretty big and can get out of sort sometimes so its a lot of info to go through.

I'm with Kil on this one.
1. It's only a game. :D
2. The tank will respawn. ;)
3. You can respawn at tank. :D
4. If someone is there allready then tough they were waiting longer than you, so wait if you want to or get back to the action. :p
5. Stop being a vehicle Whore.
6. It's only a game. :D
7. It's only a game. :D
8. Well I hope you get the idea by now. ;)

I am just beginning to make use of the personal radar for anything beyond general orientation. I can see where, with the radar zoomed in close, it would be fairly obvious at a glance if there were friendlies in my path. I've probably backed over more team mates than I've killed otherwise. Hopefully with more focus on this, we can all have a better game.

Zoomed in it's glaringly obvious what's behind you. Even on mid-zoom where I keep mine all the time, it's obvious when there's something behind you. Most people just default into survival mode and forget to look.

How many times have you been the second piece of armor crossing a bridge, just to have the tank/APC in front of you slam it into reverse and plow into you because they saw something up ahead that they didn't like? Survival mode. The better course of action - had you known you had some help right behind you - is to continue accross as quickly as you can, or move aside right there if there's room so the second piece of armor can help you attack whatever just scared the wits out of you. Otherwise he's helplessly stuck behind you being pushed backwards and you're not accomplishing much except damaging both vehicles.

Situational Awareness - Priceless !

Oh of course if I'm getting repaired i sit still. Its just that when I think im all alone, not getting repaired by anybody and I'm engineer, i like to get to a safe spot to repair myself. Saves the time I'd have to respawn at a back base for a tank and drive it all the way to the front. And there are some times when a stray non-engineer bot likes to walk in the path of my retreating tank without me paying full attention. No human is that dumb, but it still counts as a tk.

That's happened to me before, but I've also been the first tank in a column, see an enemy, slow down to get a nice shot at their treads, and the guy behind me rams right into me. I'm not the best tank driver, so it takes a second to line up the best shot. I normally spot out the tank first so the person behind me can go around and get in a shot too, but not everyone knows what other people mean by things. I always stay on one side of a bridge or whatever just in case there are those crazy people in jihad jeeps or just racing in a car or buggy to get to a flag want to get by in a hurry, and can in the space to my right or left, but I guess most people in armor don't think they can fit and just wait.

Your kidding me, right? Dang, even now your better than me. I can barely imagine how well you'll function ingame when you get the mini map fully situated.

I was real world light armor, (Amtracks, MOS 1833) and that is just what you do. Move forwards and don't jam the vehicles behind you. "Continue the mission". However, the driver following should also keep the spacing. Still move forwards per Marine doctrine. "Continue the mission". If you are moving through a choke point, keep going, or you will get the rest of your unit killed. Better you die than them. "Continue the mission". Never give up, never surrender. "Continue the mission".

It's been 5 yrs since I last played BF2 and I made an honest mistake. I will take more time and care in my maneuvers. Still says I'm banned by a server admin for excessive TK. But I will just use your other two servers as that's where i spend most my time anyways. So, I think the bashing on my noob mistake has been driven home enough. So....Let's get back to playing, shall we? ;)

I found the ban and removed it bud. It would have been helpful to know what game it happened in, or that you were playing under another nick when it happened, but I found it.

As far as "bashing on your noob mistake" is concerned: I don't think anyone posts here simply to bash on anyone's mistake. But - maybe someone else will read this post and the next time I'm standing behind their tank with my handy dandy adjustable wrench, they won't squash me like a bug backing up in a fit of terror.

kilo...im glad this topic was brought up..it is not intended to rag you personaly..but is a general awareness of the unneccesary tks that happens when people are not paying attention to their teammates and only see the bots...

You would think I would have more sense not to go flying backwards to evade
but..lol
I was in the 1st armored Division Iraq. 19kilo , 19 alpha when I left. I was an M1A2 commander from 97' to 04' 3 tours in Iraq Then an instructor at AIT Fort Knox.

You would think I know better..lol and, I hope this thread helps peeps in the future. My appologies, My sons account was banned....Srry Kilemal. I didn't realize.
So... just know I will stand my ground and not go flying backwards to evade. I will try my best to use my map and check for friendlies so that this does not happen again.
Let's go kill some bots
