We are plagued badly with constant connection problems... we have ramped up our internet service first by doubling from a pathetic 1.5Mbps DSL connection to a 3.0Mbps DSL...
most recently we upped the ante to a 12Mbps cable connection (soon to be 25Mbps, they placed our order wrong!)...
... the connection problems persist with 12Mbps.
After some very appreciated guidance, I was able to trace our path on the World Wide Web (WWW) and it seems we have a really good connection...
... most of the time...
BUT...
T2 was playing and had a connection problem in perfect timing that I was running "tracert" and voila!... we found the issue, I think:
Seems we get sporadic poor connection through "car1.dallas"
I've seen higher pings with it on several traces, maybe 80ms...
... but when T2 had his connection problem, 2 of the 3 pings to car1.dallas responded in excess of 200ms (something like 208 and 228!).
I am dumbfounded what to do.
This is out on the web well past our local service provider so I can't blame them (sheepish grin!).
This isn't our hardware either. We have a solid connections through a Game Extreme router (running Gamefuel)... but with or without Gamefuel, our problem remains...
... my question is simple: Does anyone know a way to define an alternate (perhaps more lengthy) path to a server on the WWW?
(thanks!)
