View Full Version : Is it possible to define a path on the WWW to the Nitro server?

We are plagued badly with constant connection problems... we have ramped up our internet service first by doubling from a pathetic 1.5Mbps DSL connection to a 3.0Mbps DSL...

most recently we upped the ante to a 12Mbps cable connection (soon to be 25Mbps, they placed our order wrong!)...

... the connection problems persist with 12Mbps.

After some very appreciated guidance, I was able to trace our path on the World Wide Web (WWW) and it seems we have a really good connection...

... most of the time...

BUT...

T2 was playing and had a connection problem in perfect timing that I was running "tracert" and voila!... we found the issue, I think:

Seems we get sporadic poor connection through "car1.dallas"

I've seen higher pings with it on several traces, maybe 80ms...

... but when T2 had his connection problem, 2 of the 3 pings to car1.dallas responded in excess of 200ms (something like 208 and 228!).

I am dumbfounded what to do.

This is out on the web well past our local service provider so I can't blame them (sheepish grin!).

This isn't our hardware either. We have a solid connections through a Game Extreme router (running Gamefuel)... but with or without Gamefuel, our problem remains...

... my question is simple: Does anyone know a way to define an alternate (perhaps more lengthy) path to a server on the WWW?

(thanks!)

I don't think there is anything you can do bud. Back in the days when games didn't have dedicated servers, everyone started their own internet game and their friends joined it by their ip address. Trap and I played a lot of games that way for a long time, and had a lot of connection problems. Ours were always in Chicago, which kinda dumbfounded me because I wouldn't think the optimal route from Massachusetts to Indiana would be through Chicago, but as far as I know, the route your internet connections take is completely beyond your control.

Can you put in the full tracert output here? car1.dallas isn't a valid hostname.

ae-31-80.car1.Dallas1.Level3.net

This is where we get some poor performance along the path from time to time I think...

I was abbreviating earlier.

(and this still is nowhere near the complete trace but I can't get a screen trap outta the CMD window)
